A railroad junction during the lumbering era, Spooner was named after John Coit Spooner, a railroad attorney elected to the U.S. Senate in 1885 and 1897. Spooner now is a popular resort community in the wooded lake district of northwestern Wisconsin. More than 900 lakes attract tourists to Washburn County. A float trip down the Namekagon River is a popular pastime; access landings are in Trego at the junction of US 53 and US 63, and on CR K, 10 miles north of Spooner. Learn More...
