NATIONAL PARK

Custer National Forest

Beartooth Scenic Highway, usually open Memorial Day through mid-October, traverses the mountain country. Other good routes provide access to campgrounds and trailheads. Guide and pack services are available in nearby towns.

Trail information, which can be obtained from Forest Service offices, should be checked and updated at Beartooth Ranger Station before a trip into Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness is attempted. The ranger station, south of Red Lodge, Mont., on US 212, is open daily 8-4:30, Memorial Day-Labor Day; Mon.-Fri. 8-4:30, rest of year.

For further information contact the Forest Supervisor, P.O. Box 130, 10 E. Backcock Ave., Bozeman, MT 59771; phone (406) 587-6701 or Beartooth Ranger Station, (406) 446-2103.
