Ten miles east on I-70 through Glenwood Canyon is a 1.7-mile trail to Hanging Lake, a water-filled rocky bowl literally clinging to the face of a cliff 1,200 feet above the floor of the canyon. Spouting Rock Creek, which feeds the lake, creates Bridal Veil Falls.
Glenwood Springs, at the confluence of the Colorado and Roaring Fork rivers, is a popular rafting and trout fishing destination. The city lies along the scenic stretches of two highways: I-70 from Grand Junction to Georgetown and SR 82 from Glenwood Springs to Aspen, over Independence Pass (sections of the pass are closed in winter).
