DESTINATION

Terrace

Among the most popular recreation areas are Lakelse Lake Provincial Park; Lakelse River, a tributary of the Skeena River that harbors record-size salmon; and Williams Creek, which teems with spawning sockeye each August.

Several places of natural interest are nearby. At the eastern entrance to the city is Ferry Island Provincial Park, where you can hike trails and go fishing, swimming and camping. Look closely at the cottonwood trees on the island's trails; more than 50 have faces carved into them by a local artist.

About 20 kilometres (12 mi.) south of Terrace is Mount Layton Hot Springs Resort, which has waterslides and a pool filled with natural hot spring mineral water. Hwy. 16 offers a scenic drive west along the Skeena River to Prince Rupert.
