Forsyth is named for Gov. John Forsyth, who served as secretary of state to Presidents Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren. In 1834 the town became a regional transportation center when it was linked with the railroad. It also served as a distribution point when cotton planters brought their product to Forsyth for shipment to Macon and the southern United States. Learn More...
