Overview
Haifa is the third-largest city in Israel, with 285 000 inhabitants. Its history starts with Tel Shikmona in 1700 B.C., and Haifa is mentioned in the Talmud but became important with the building of the modern port in the 20th century by Great Britain. It is the capital of the Israeli north and the world center for Bahai religion.
