57.0 miles: 1 hours, 21 minutes

The High Road to Taos Scenic Byway (SRs 503, 76 and 518) in north central New Mexico is filled with history and expansive views. The two-lane road traverses high-desert rangeland amid views of the distant forested peaks. In the small communities, you'll see historic churches and adobe architecture evoking the region's Native American and Spanish origins.

The High Road to Taos Scenic Byway begins just north of Santa Fe at the entrance to Nambé Reservation. Dusty landscape with patches of piñon and juniper framed by distant mountains follows, and historic villages punctuate the route. A scenic overlook area on SR 518 in Ranchos de Taos showcases Carson National Forest.
