Longleaf Trail Scenic Byway

17.3 miles: 0 hours, 28 minutes

Longleaf Trail Scenic Byway immerses you in the rugged wilderness of Kisatchie Ranger District, a section of Kisatchie National Forest. The 17-mile-long drive boasts views of mesas, buttes and sandstone rock formations. The road also crosses the rocky Kisatchie Bayou, which is bordered by old-growth hardwood and pine as it flows north into the Old River.

Originally a single-lane road constructed in the 1930s, this scenic byway cuts through Kisatchie National Forest's Kisatchie Ranger District, where elevations range from 120 to 400 feet above sea level. If you need a break from driving, hike, bike or go horseback riding on the 10.5-mile Caroline Dormon Trail, surrounded by wax myrtle, French mulberry and pine trees.
