Labrador Straits Scenic Route Road Trip

0.0 miles: 0 hours, 0 minutes

Quebec's isolated Lower North Shore is a land of stark beauty where the chilly waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence lap against the weathered boulders, sandy coves and innumerable islets of the coast. The Labrador Straits Route takes PR 138 west from Blanc-Sablon on the Labrador border to Vieux-Fort (Old Fort Bay), giving visitors a taste of this forbidding but beautiful area.

PR 138 passes through several small fishing villages made up of simple, wood-frame houses scattered along the shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Overlooks with interpretive signs occur at regular intervals, including one at Bradore Falls, where a fast-flowing stream tumbles through a craggy rift. Seabirds, particularly puffins, are a common sight, and you may even see a whale or two offshore.
