Cades Cove Loop Scenic Road

10.5 miles: 0 hours, 40 minutes

The Cades Cove Loop Road in Great Smoky Mountains National Park takes visitors by 19th-century homes and churches as well as the park’s open meadowlands, which were a popular hunting ground for the Cherokee people. Take the roadway around the park for an unspoiled peek into the cove lands. Birds, wildlife and beautiful wildflowers are commonly seen in season.

Black cherry, black walnut and poplar trees frame the meadowlands along the Cades Cove Loop Road. Historic buildings peek through the "Tsiyahi," the Cherokee word for "place of the river otter." Wildlife features prominently here, so keep the binoculars handy in case you stop. White-tailed deer, groundhogs and black bears are among the many creatures native to these lands.
