AAA Diamond Inspector Notes
The glamour of yesteryear shines from the ornate exterior of this 1906 building that started life as an apartment house. The ornamentation continues in the lobby, in the bas-relief panels over the guest room doors, and in the main stairwell’s marble landings and original balusters (for a great pic, or a bit of vertigo, head up to the top floor and look down through the center). Guest rooms feature lively fuchsia accents, plump bedding, and most have a shower-only bathroom. Many rooms have a large desk, some recessed into an alcove. For a bit more space, consider reserving a junior or one-bedroom suite. The hotel is located a short walk from Dupont Circle Metro station, amid a neighborhood of eateries, residences and embassies. Smoke free premises. 173 units. 9 stories, interior corridors. Accessibility (Call).

Nice Hotel, great location. It is huge and I don't think the entire hotel is in use. Our room was small, but nice. Staff was very nice. Lobby is very nice. Lots of restaurants within walking distance, but no retail shopping. Easy to get to public transportation and local sights. Don't let the term "suite" fool you though. They have two different kinds of suites; one does NOT have a separate room - just a small alcove with a desk and lamp. The other (and more expensive) suite is a typical suite - separate room with couch, additional TV, etc. If you want a microwave in your room, you have to request it and there are no guarantees. The restaurant is very small and understaffed. Had to run the shower for 10 minutes for hot water. No ice machines, you have to go to front desk for ice. You can open the windows a bit for fresh air. Overall, a very decent place to stay if you are looking for a clean place with no frills.
