AAA Diamond Inspector Notes
This 1904-built grand hotel has been wonderfully modernized with sleek decor and eclectic touches in its stately guest rooms and public areas. There also is a buzzy in-house Italian restaurant. The bathrooms are typically Manhattan-small but are very well appointed with custom marble and modern fixtures. Room decor is freshly presented and finishes are of good quality. The layout in the suites features more floor space and a decidedly relaxed but still sophisticated Gotham vibe. Smoke free premises. 317 units. 12 stories, interior corridors. Accessibility (Call).

The location is very commercial and also very noisy at night. (Painfully loud music, noisy drunks, etc.) All I really wanted from them was a clean, quiet place to sleep, but I did not get much sleep while I was there. The hotel staff was neither welcoming nor friendly and made me really wish I didn’t have to talk to them, even just to check in and out. I was charged a mandatory $40/day “resort fee” for breakfast in the morning and some sort of wine and snack in the evening. However, this was a working trip for me and I could not participate in either because the breakfast started too late and the afternoon event too early - both during my working hours. The room was reasonably clean and the housekeeping staff did a good job, but the room was also surprisingly shabby for such a highly-rated (and highly-priced) place. Further, even though the room was fairly large (for Manhattan) there was annoyingly little space for my stuff, partly because they devoted such a large amount of real estate to items that they were advertising and/or selling at ridiculously high prices.. I was very glad to leave that place and won’t be going back.
