AAA Diamond Inspector Notes

Built in 1855 by Harvey Parker, this is reputed to be Boston's oldest hotel and the birthplace of the Boston cream pie. Its opulent lobby exudes elegance and grace of the gilded age. The location is convenient to the theater district, the ‘T’, and is one block to Boston Common. The furnishings and style honor the hotel's design in its heyday. Rooms vary in size, from quite small to comfortable; and, each with plush super-soft white bedding, robes and thick oversize towels. Many historical events and famous guests have stayed at this hotel. Take a peek at the press room where JFK announced his candidacy for Congress or request table number 40 in the main dining room where he proposed to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Charles Dickens resided here for more than two years while he wrote and performed 'A Christmas Carol' for the first time. He would rehearse in front of a large gilded mirror that is now on display near the press room. As with many old hotels, this one has its fair share of ghost stories. Those interested in the supernatural may want to wander the halls of the 10th floor where it has been said that the ghost of the original owner still roams. Smoke free premises. 551 units. 14 stories, interior corridors. Accessibility (Call).

Everything was GREAT, except for the Viator car service. They seemed totally incompetent. I received an email saying that the car service from and to the airport was "paid and confirmed", and I printed the two tickets that were attached, which both had confirmation numbers. When we arrived at the airport, I called for the car, per instructions in the ticket, and was told that our reservation was cancelled because we hadn't confirmed. We had to find another ride, so I called Viator back and told them to cancel the trip back to the airport. I was assured that they would refund the entire charge to my credit card but have seen nothing yet, so I have disputed the charge with my credit card company.

The Parker House is an old hotel with beautiful lobby. The hotel is known for originating the Boston Cream Pie (which is actually a cake). The bar serves an excellent Boston Cream Pie martini. The room was very small but it was clean and the staff was amazing. It's location is within walking distance to the Boston Commons and many other historic sites. It's also rumored to be haunted so ask for a room on the 3rd floor if you are into that.

Excellent location but hotel needs care. We stayed here 7 years ago and nothing has been done since. Needs paint, carpet. Etc. also for what you're paying, they should give you coffee each morning. We joined Omni loyalty club and were given some tickets for really bad coffee, but then told no more as that was a perk for 2nd stay and more. Really??? At $600 a night? We were there 5 nights. Plus a $25 a night fee like a resort fee for nothing. Only location and historical significance saves this place.

It was an awesome hotel. The service was exemplary. The Bellman Steve gave us all kinds of really good tips about what was going on in the area. He gave us a heads up for the feast of Saint Anthony that was going on in the north end and let us now about a couple of Irish pub’s right around the corner. Everyone who worked there bent over backwards to help us. Excellent service The history of the hotel is amazing. We did hang out at the bar and have an appetizer. The ambience and the bartenders were great . Rooms are small, but we expected that since it’s a few centuries old!
