The staff were great, the location ideal for exploring the Embarcadero waterfront area, the accommodations a very nice balance between the classic old hotel with modern updates, and very tasty complimentary coffee and pastries for breakfast.

I must admit, after reading a few reviews from a few travel sites, as well as Google and Yelp, I was very skeptical about staying here. But afterward, I gotta say, I loved it!! The bed was comfortable, and it had 4 giant pillows. All the amenities were good. The room was a bit small, but it was expected from a privately-owned hotel that's been around as long as this one. This was not a deal breaker. The hotel only has one elevator, which can take time to catch if you're coming/going with a lot of luggage, but if not, the stairs are right around the corner. And the hotel has its own restaurant, and the food was good, staff was so nice and attentive. There was a loud fire(?) alarm that was going off when we first checked in, but it didn't come back during our stay, at least not while we were in the building. Overall, it was a very enjoyable, comfortable stay. Thank you to the entire Hotel Griffon staff.
