Located downtown and opposite the Sea Plane Terminal, the fully restored building was built in the 1890s and retains some of the charm from that era. Room sizes vary from compact to above average. They have a fresh modern design. Bathrooms are a good size but have not been renovated yet. A number of rooms overlook Nanaimo Harbour. Street parking and the lots can become crowded and a distance from the hotel. Smoke free premises. 71 units. 4 stories, interior corridors.

The Dorchester is in downtown, so you park on the street to check in. There is a parking lot below the hotel. There are steps from the parking lot to load into the hotel. The hotel is about a block from the waterfront so you can walk the downtown area where there are restaurants, a marina and shops. It’s an old, refurbished hotel. It was clean, small room. The lobby was busy and noisy. The hot water for tea was lukewarm and when I asked them to put in hotter water, it was still lukewarm. There is no breakfast with the room, but there is a restaurant in the lobby (not owned by the hotel). A few doors away are some coffee shops with pastries and muffins, plus coffee and tea.
