Ambassador Hotel

Nice hotel in a classic old building on the hill overlooking Cork. The place looks well maintained, and has a really nice restaurant. Easy walk to downtown if you don't mind hills :-). No A/C though and the recent hot weather meant our room on the top floor was quite warm - the windows don't open enough for good ventilation. Elevator only goes to floor 2 - we had to walk the last flight to our rooms. They hosted several events while we were there and the parking lot was full so we had to park on the street nearby. Staff was very helpful - we'd reserved and prepaid 2 rooms through AAA but the hotel only received a booking for 1; fortunately they had another room available and the staff was very helpful in getting this straightened out and gave us the prepaid rate for the 2nd room. AAA refunded the prepayment for one room so it all worked out but did make for some nervous moments. Lesson learned - If you don't book direct *double check* with the hotel that they received your booking as expected!
