POINT OF INTEREST

Yaliciftlik

Yaliciftlik, Bodrum, Muğla

Close to the coastal resort town of Bodrum, the small village of Yalıçiftlik provides a tranquil retreat from the tourist crowds. Bordered by pine forests, olive groves, and rocky coves, Yalıçiftlik is the place to escape to the countryside, experience traditional Turkish life, and swim at secluded sandy beaches.

Reachable by road or boat, Yalıçiftlik is a popular stop on cruises and day trips from Bodrum. Set sail on a boat cruise along the Bodrum Peninsula, stopping at Yaliçiftlik and other villages; head into the village to browse the local market and admire the traditional stone farmhouses, then seek out a quiet cove to swim and sunbathe along the Gulf of Gokava. Or, head into the surrounding forests for a thrilling ATV safari, and explore the natural wonders of the Bodrum coast.

  • Yalıçiftlik has a lively open-air market and several small shops where you can purchase traditional handicrafts, olive oil, and Turkish coffee.

  • There are several cafés, restaurants, and accommodation options in town, and the village is the ideal spot to try traditional Turkish food.

  • Some tours and cruises are accessible for wheelchairs, but it’s best to contact the operator in advance.

Yalıçiftlik is about 19 miles (30 kilometers) from Bodrum, and can be reached by public bus (dolmus)—about a 40-minute trip. Many tours and cruises from Bodrum also stop at the village.

May through October is the main season for exploring the Bodrum Peninsula, especially if you want to swim and enjoy the beaches. July and August, the small village becomes busier with tourists, day-trippers, and cruise passengers, so book accommodations well in advance.

The “St. Tropez of Turkey" is a popular cruise port that makes an ideal base for traveling. Discover the villages of the Bodrum Peninsula or take a catamaran or yacht cruise to visit the caves of Black Island, or swim and snorkel at Aquarium Bay. Other day-trip destinations include the Greek island of Rhodes, known for its UNESCO-listed medieval monuments; the Greek island of Kos; and the Karnas vineyards, where you can sample Turkish wines at a boutique winery.
