POINT OF INTEREST

West Bay

West Bay, Cayman Islands

Located north of Seven Mile Beach on the west end of Grand Cayman, West Bay is a laid-back and largely residential neighborhood. Several attractions are found here, including the Cayman Turtle Centre, Hell, Barker’s National Park, West Bay Beach, and Cemetery Beach, along with numerous dive sites just offshore.

The beaches in West Bay offer a more relaxed, less crowded alternative to Seven Mile Beach. Explore the Cayman Island’s first national park at Barker’s National Park, where kitesurfing, snorkeling, paddling, horseback riding, biking, and birdwatching are popular. Encounter turtles and other wildlife at Cayman Turtle Centre, and see a landscape of blackened limestone at Hell. Numerous dive sites are located just offshore of West Bay. Some tours to Stingray City depart from West Bay.

  • West Bay offers activities for all types of travelers, including nature and wildlife lovers, water sport enthusiasts, families, and those looking to escape the crowds.

  • Barker’s National Park is undeveloped and doesn't offer any amenities; restrooms and changing facilities can be found at West Bay Beach and near Cemetery Beach.

  • Several restaurants and bars can be found in West Point.

West Bay is located at the northern end of Grand Cayman’s western peninsula, just north of Seven Mile Beach, and around 6 miles (10 kilometers) from George Town on the Esterly Tibbetts Highway. You can drive, take a taxi, or ride buses 1WB, 2WB, or 3. Most tours to West Bay and area attractions include transportation.

West Bay enjoys warm weather year-round. High season is December–April, while the rainy season runs May–October, and hurricane season is June–November. The windy season, ideal for kitesurfing, runs from November to April. For smaller crowds and lower prices, visit in May and June.

The Cayman Islands are known for fantastic scuba diving, with 365 named dive sites. More than 40 of those sites can be found just off the coast of West Bay, which makes it a great launching point for scuba dives. Popular sites include the Kittiwake Shipwreck, Trinity Caves Round Rock, Big Tunnels, and Bonnie’s Arch, and plenty of tours will take you to them.
