Via Ferrata Montmorency
2490 Ave. Royale, Quebec City, QC, QC G1C 1S1
Quebec visitors looking for adventure shouldn't miss Via Ferrata Montmorency, a guided outdoor excursion through Parc de la Chute-Montmorency full of adrenaline-fueled activities, such as zip lining and rock climbing. Not for the faint of heart, this tour will help you enjoy the best of this beautiful park.
The Basics
Parc de la Chute-Montmorency is a verdant park and historic sight known for its stunning, 272-foot (83-meter) waterfall, and the Via Ferrata Montmorency—a rock-climbing experience that uses steel cables attached to the sides of cliffs—is a popular way to enjoy the park. Pre-book admission to the park, and head out in a small group with a guide on one of the park’s three climbing circuits.
Things to Know Before You Go
Thrill seekers shouldn't miss this outdoor adventure.
Via Ferrata Montmorency includes one beginner-level route and two routes for intermediate-level adventurers.
Climbing gear—helmet, harness, and carabiners—are included in the activity fee.
Kids under age 14, pregnant women, and guests weighing more than 220 lbs (100kg) are not allowed to participate.
Be sure to wear appropriate clothing, including loose pants and sports shoes.
Via Ferrata Montmorency is not accessible for travelers who use a wheelchair.
Travelers who want even more exhilarating outdoor adventures can pre-book a ziplining tour across Montmorency Falls cove.
How to Get There
The most convenient way to reach Parc de la Chute-Montmorency, located about 15 minutes from Downtown Quebec City, is by car. Parking is available at the foot of the waterfall, or during the summer, on the Boischatel side of the park. Alternatively, you can take a shuttle from Old Québec City; several tour operators run shuttles directly to the falls.
When to Get There
The park is accessible year round, but you’ll get the most out of your visit if you stop by during Quebec's warmest months—June, July, and August. Expect more crowds on weekends and during national holidays. To avoid the crowds, pre-book a spot on a weekday Via Ferrata experience.
How to Bike to Parc de la Chute-Montmorency
If you're up for an adventurous day, plan to bike from Quebec City to this historic park. Start your day by renting a bike, then head to the waterfront Corridor du Littoral bike path. This paved, waterfront path has separated bike lanes, so it's an easy, safe ride all the way to the falls. When you arrive, find a dedicated cyclist access point, and a bike rack to lock up.
