POINT OF INTEREST

Underwater Observatory Marine Park

Almog Beach, Eilat, ISR

Surrounded by coral reef marine life off the Israeli coast, the Underwater Observatory Marine Park offers a window into the Red Sea's natural aquarium. On a visit to the tower observatory, you descend 40 feet (12 meters) below the surface of the Gulf of Aqaba—without getting wet—to see the underwater world from glass-lined halls.

As there are no cages or fences surrounding the observatory, the marine life you see differs with each visit, but expect to glimpse many of the 800 species of coral, sharks, stingray, turtles, and fish on a guided tour of the Underwater Observatory Marine Park.

Admission to the observatory includes entrance to Shark World, turtle pools, stingray pools, an adventure park, and the Amazon Hut—where you can view wildlife native to the Amazon River. You can pair a trip to the observatory with other nearby adventures such as a Jeep tour in the Eilat Mountains or a glass bottom boat tour in the gulf.

  • The Underwater Observatory Marine Park is favorite for families and marine-life enthusiasts.

  • The park provides an unusual opportunity to observe marine life in their natural habitat from within a controlled environment.

  • You can see animal feedings and shows within the park’s pools.

  • There are a variety of shopping and dining opportunities within the park.

Located in the southernmost corner of Israel, the Underwater Observatory Marine Park is 4.5 miles (seven kilometers) from the Eilat Airport and a 4-hour drive from either Tel Aviv or Jerusalem. You can visit the park on a day trip from Eilat or on many sightseeing tours of Israel.

The Underwater Observatory Marine Park is open daily from morning through mid-afternoon. Shows and activities are held every half hour from 10:30am to 3pm. To watch the animals perform, plan your visit to coincide with the feeding time shows, which are held at set times throughout the day. Visit the park’s website for a detailed schedule.

Dive either figuratively deeper into the underwater world at the Oceanarium or literally deeper at the Bubble Pool. Inside the Oceanarium simulator you can journey through the depths of the sea on surrounding HD screens while sitting on a platform that rotates with the movement of the film. The Bubble Pool, meanwhile, gives visitors the opportunity to join the marine life in a real aquarium (you have to get wet for this one).
