Tygart River Dam and Lake

Tygart River Dam and Lake is 2 mi. s., following signs from US 50 or US 119. The dam was built to control floods on the Monongahela River and reduce the crest of the Ohio River during flood times. The dam is 207 feet thick at the base, 1,921 feet long and 230 feet high. The reservoir, which covers 1,750 acres and has a 32-mile shoreline, provides opportunities for fishing and hiking. Note: Photo ID is required for tours. Foreign nationals must reserve 30 days prior to tour date. Picnicking is permitted.
