Thermae Bath Spa

Hot Bath St., Bath, England

The only natural, mineral-water thermal spa in the UK, the Thermae Bath Spa is located just steps from the ruins of the city’s Roman Baths, and draws from the same ancient water source. Visitors to the spa can paddle in those waters (including in its showstopper Rooftop Pool), book massages and other treatments, and relax in the multiroom Wellness Suite.

2,000 years ago, ancient Romans and Celts took to Bath’s steaming spring waters to relax, unwind, and restore—and thanks to the Thermae Bath Spa, present-day visitors can enjoy the same experience. The spa offers a range of bathing areas, including the spacious Minerva Bath, the separate Cross Bath, and the Rooftop Bath, the highlight of the venue which offers spectacular city views by day and by night. Custom wellness packages and treatments can also be booked in advance.

Thanks to its location in the heart of Bath and adjacent to the original Roman Baths, the Thermae Bath Spa is easy to visit as part of an immersive day out in the UNESCO-listed city. While many Bath walking tours stop by the spa as they continue through town, it’s worth booking a session to really experience it for yourself.

  • The main spa building is only accessible to visitors aged 16 or older, and you need to be 18 or older to book treatments.

  • 2-hour Welcome Spa Session visits, which include access to all main facilities, can be booked online in advance; limited walk-in slots are available.

  • All treatments should be booked in advance over the phone, as should the spa’s popular Twilight Package.

  • All visitors are provided with robes and towels upon arrival, but you should bring your own bathing suit and sandals or water shoes.

  • The onsite Springs Cafe serves a range of light bites and drinks from morning until evening.

  • All floors of the spa are accessible by elevator, but narrow and wet areas may make access tricky for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.

  • Lockers are provided in the unisex changing room, but larger bags or suitcases cannot be stored.

The Thermae Bath Spa is located at The Hetling Pump Room, Hot Bath Street, Bath BA1 1SJ. It is less than 10 minutes on foot from the Bath Spa Railway Station, the city’s major mainline train station. Local taxi services offer another way to get around the city, too.

The Thermae Bath Spa’s main spa facility is open daily, from morning until late evening and pools close 30 minutes before the official closing time. The spa is closed annually on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. Booking in advance is advised, as the spa can be very busy, especially during weekends and holidays.

To complement your visit to the Thermae Bath Spa, it’s worth learning about the millennia-old origins of Bath’s spa culture. Travel back in time to the days of Aquae Sulis (the Roman name for Bath), when you visit the Roman Baths, which feature extensive ancient bathing facilities, artifacts, and interactive exhibitions.
