The Schiele Museum of Natural History is off I-85 exit 20 (New Hope Rd.), following signs to 1500 E. Garrison Blvd. Regional dioramas are presented in the Hall of North Carolina Natural History. The Everglades, the Sonoran Desert and the Alaskan tundra are brought to life in the Hall of North American Habitats. The extensive collection in the Hall of North American Wildlife includes moose, elk, bison, birds, insects and a number of live reptiles. The Elizabeth W. Robinson Hall of Earth and Man features fossils, exhibits about prehistoric humans, and an impressive gem and mineral display. Tools, weapons, housing and the adornments of 12 tribal groups are exhibited in the Henry Hall of the American Indian. The James H. Lynn Planetarium offers astronomy and space science presentations. Hike the half-mile nature trail and explore the Memorial Wildlife Garden, the Catawba Indian Village, the Stone Age Heritage Site and the 18th Century Backcountry Farm. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
