Osaka’s Tempozan Ferris Wheel soars 369 feet (112 meters into the air—and with a diameter of 330 feet (100 meters—it’s one of the world's largest Ferris wheels. The wheel takes riders on a 15-minute-long journey through the sky, offering views of the city, bay, and mountains in the distance.

On a clear day, riding the wheel provides views of Mount Ikoma to the east, the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge to the west, Kansai International Airport to the south, and the Rokko mountains to the north. Additionally, the wheel boasts incredible technology; it is decorated with colored lights that illuminate in patterns that tell the next day’s weather forecast. When the wheel is orange, visitors can expect a sunny day; and when it is blue, rain is on the way.

The Tempozan Ferris Wheel is located in the Tempozan Harbor Village, next to the Osaka Aquarium and the Tempozan Marketplace mall. Many major hotels are close by, and other nearby attractions include Universal Studios Japan. It’s also a convenient five-minute walk from Osakako Station on the Osaka Metro Chuo Line.

When to get there

The wheel is usually open daily from late morning to early evening. The best time to see it is after dark. At night, the wheel is illuminated and the surrounding area shines under its brightly colored neon lights. It is considered by many as one of the most romantic spots in the city.

Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan

Next to the Tempozan Ferris Wheel, Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan is one of the world’s largest aquariums. Marine life is displayed in its 15 large tanks, each of which represents a different region of the Pacific Rim. The central tank—representing the Pacific Ocean—is home to a whale shark, the aquarium's main attraction.
