POINT OF INTEREST

Tallinn TV Tower (Tallinna Teletorn)

Kloostrimetsa tee 58a, Tallinn, EST

Standing at 1,030 feet (314 meters) high, the Tallinn TV Tower was built in 1980 to improve broadcast transmissions for the Moscow Summer Olympics. In 1991, it became a symbol of Estonia's independence movement when locals defended the tower against Soviet forces. Now, visitors come here for its observation deck, museum, and restaurant.

Being one of the city’s tallest buildings, the Tallinn TV Tower is often pointed out on city sightseeing tours, but many travelers visit independently to ensure they have plenty of time to soak up the views from the observation deck. Prebooked skip-the-line admission is a convenient option (especially on the weekends), and if the observation deck isn’t exhilarating enough, thrillseekers can get strapped to a harness and take part in a “Walk On The Edge” experience.

  • There’s an on-site restaurant that’s open every day from morning till evening, as well as a souvenir shop.

  • The TV Tower has elevators, and all areas are wheelchair accessible, apart from the 22nd-floor outdoor deck.

  • Bathrooms are available for wheelchair users, as well as parking areas for people with disabilities.

  • If traveling with a stroller, you’re asked to leave it in the cloakroom on the ground floor.

  • You can plan on about an hour for your visit; be aware that tower access ends an hour before the tower closes.

It takes just under 30 minutes to get to the Tallinn TV Tower from the center of Tallinn by public transportation. The easiest way is to take the #34 or #38 bus from the Viru Keskus underground bus station to the Teletorn stop.

The TV Tower is open every day—usually from mid-morning until evening—but it’s best to check specific opening times in advance. There are usually big crowds on the weekends, so to avoid being stuck in long ticket lines, consider booking skip-the-line admission in advance.

At the Tallinn TV Tower, you’ll take a high-speed elevator up to the observation deck. From there, you can access 360-degree views of Tallinn and its surrounding areas, including the picturesque Old Town, the Baltic Sea, and on a clear day, even as far as the Gulf of Finland.
