As a city with many waterways and canals, Bangkok boasts a number of floating markets, including the small Taling Chan Floating Market. Visit for a less crowded, more local experience than at some of the larger markets. Go to check out the range of vegetables, fruit, meat, fish, plants, crafts, souvenirs, and ready-to-eat food on sale.
Taling Chan Floating Market, located in Khlong Chak Phra canal, has been open since the 1980s. It's less crowded than other area floating markets, with an authentic local feel. Even if you don't need fresh fish or vegetables, you can try grilled seafood, take a longtail boat tour, or get a foot massage. Visit the weekend market independently, or take a cycling tour of Bangkok’s canal areas, which often include a stop at Taling Chan.
Most of the stalls are on land beside the canals, which is good news if you’re not comfortable on small boats.
Bring plenty of cash, as cards aren’t accepted.
As this is a less touristy market, few vendors here speak English. Restaurant menus often have pictures so you can point to what you want.
The floating market is 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) from central Bangkok. One convenient way to arrive is to take the Skytrain to the end of the line at Wongwian Yai, and then take a taxi. Consider taking a taxi out to the market and then a boat to Wat Arun afterwards.
The market is open on Saturdays and Sundays from around 8am until 5pm. Arrive around 10am to beat the heat and the lunch crowds. Live Thai music is played during lunch.
