POINT OF INTEREST

St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts

255 Beach Drive Northeast, St. Petersburg, Florida

The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) is one of Florida’s most comprehensive art collections, with exhibits spanning 5,000 years and over 20,000 works. The museum boasts pieces from famous artists such as Monet and O'Keeffe as well as sculpture gardens, prestigious photography exhibits, and early American Indian art.

With waterfront views and a convenient downtown location, the MFA is the perfect addition to an art-lovers day out in the city. Visitors can explore the museum’s collections and temporary exhibits on a self-guided or docent-led tour. Choosing a guided tour grants you an insider’s view of the exhibits and gives you a chance to ask questions and learn more about the artists and individual pieces. Additionally, you can choose a customized tour that focuses on a certain exhibit or highlights a particular gallery so you can dive deep into the aspects of the museum that interest you most.

  • The museum has permanent and temporary exhibits, making it an intriguing stop for first-time visitors and St. Petersburg locals alike.
  • The fully-accessible museum offers wheelchairs on a first-come-first-served basis and ASL interpreted tours are available with three weeks of advance notice.
  • Food and drinks are not allowed in the galleries but you can enjoy a waterfront meal at the MFA Cafe and pick up souvenirs at the museum shop.
  • Photography is welcome but flash photography and tripods are not.
  • The museum hosts kid-focused activities and family days.
  • Strollers are permitted in most of the exhibits but some galleries have limitations.

The museum is located between Beach Drive and Bayshore Drive. It can be easily reached by car, bike, or public transportation from other St. Petersburg attractions and accommodations. Meter parking is available on both sides of the museum.

The museum is open daily, with guided tours offered twice a day (only one tour on Sunday). The museum has extended hours and discounted admission on Thursday evenings.

Set on the waterfront just a 15-minute walk from MFA is the Salvador Dalí Museum—another must-see for St. Petersburg visitors. The building itself is a work of art and inside you can explore the largest collection of Salvador Dalí artwork outside of Spain. Exhibits include a vast array of art from throughout his expansive career, ranging from paintings and drawings to sculptures and photographs. Plus, the museum’s Cafe Gala introduces visitors to Spanish food and history.
