Sradinski Buk Waterfalls

Visovačko Jezero

Due to their wide cascades and travertine tiers, the Skradinski Buk waterfalls are hailed as the most impressive in Krka National Park. As one of a dozen waterfalls along the Krka River, the falls are a popular spot for hiking, swimming, and boat cruises.

Most travelers opt to visit Skradinski Buk as part of a day trip to Krka National Park; tours tend to depart from Split, Sibenik, Trogir, and Dubrovnik. A hiking trail runs along the riverfront and affords great views of the falls. A boat cruise allows you to avoid the crowds on land; most cruises depart from Skradinski Buk and sail to the Roski Slap waterfalls and Visovac Island.

  • Tickets are required to visit the Krka National Park and are available to purchase at any of the park entrances—hold on to your ticket as you may be asked to present it during your visit.

  • The hiking trail around Skradinski Buk takes around an hour, but plan up to two hours to visit the falls.

  • It’s also possible to swim in the natural pool at the base of the falls so take swimwear.

  • There is a café-restaurant by the waterfront, where free parking is available.

  • Bring comfortable shoes, sunscreen, plenty of water, and your swimsuit.

  • The hiking trail is not accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, but it is possible to enjoy a view of the falls.

Krka National Park is located around six miles (10 kilometers) inland from Sibenik in northern Dalmatia, and is an around 1-hour drive from Split or a 40-minute bus journey from Sibenik. The closest park entrance to Skradinski Buk is in Lozovac; free shuttle buses run from the park entrance to the waterfall from April to October. To get to and around the national park, you’ll need your own transport or to join a tour.

Krka National Park is open all year round, but summer sees the most crowds so plan for an early arrival or stay until sunset when tour buses tend to depart. Visiting during low season, from November to March, means that boat tours won’t be running but extra rainfall and higher water levels mean that the falls are at their most impressive.

An abundance of lush forests, cliffs, and valleys make the Krka National Park an ideal destination for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife watching. Along with its many waterfalls, which include Skradinski buk and Roski Slap, additional highlights include the Krnići Gornji viewpoint, the Oziđana pećina cave, and the island monastery of Visovac.
