Complete an open-air climb along the outside of a skyscraper for the thrill and panoramic views of the endless golden beach of Surfers Paradise and the brilliant blue of the Pacific Ocean—885 feet (270 meters) below. The open-air experience with views of the Gold Coast is located at the Q1 Resort Building.
SkyPoint Climb is the perfect activity for the daredevil traveler—after changing into a climbing suit and harness, you’ll take the elevator to floor 77 of the building. From there, a glass airlock takes you outside the building, where you’ll be clipped onto a rail safety system to climb the remaining 100 feet (30 meters) to the top of the building’s spire, which resembles a giant sail. At the top, marvel at the city and sea far below.
No loose items (including cameras) are allowed on the climb, but your guide will take photos you can purchase.
A moderate level of fitness is needed—it’s about 140 stairs each way.
Kids over 12 can climb as long as they’re at least 51 inches (130 centimeters).
Visitors who weigh more than 300 pounds (136 kilograms) fully clothed cannot make the climb.
Located a 10-minute walk from the central Cavill Mall section of Surfers Paradise, SkyPoint Climb is a great option for those staying in the region. If you’d rather save your legs for the climb, catch the Broadbeach South tram from the Cavill Avenue stop, and hop off two minutes later at the Surfers Paradise station, right outside the Q1 building.
Skip the rainy summer (December–February) and visit Surfers Paradise in the milder spring months of September and October or autumn (March–May). When booking your climb, try to choose an evening slot around 5pm—you’ll get the beauty of twilight and skip the scorching sun. Just make sure to book ahead, as those times are popular.
After your exhilarating climb, celebrate with dinner high in the sky at the SkyPoint Bistro+Bar. The relaxed menu features pizza, pasta, and burgers, with plenty of seafood options. Check the SkyPoint website to book a combined climb and dinner package, which includes a voucher for the restaurant.
