The Sherman Library & Gardens is a Newport Beach oasis, ideal for relaxing, viewing seasonal flowers, and discovering diverse plants. Visitors find flora from near and far, including deserts and tropical forests—flanked by fountains, walking paths, and sculptures. Don't miss the library, where you can learn about the Pacific Southwest.

From its diverse plant life and 15,0000-volume library to its seasonal flower beds, the Sherman Library & Gardens is a don’t-miss for nature lovers and gardeners alike. Plan to stop at the gardens during a day exploring Newport Beach and Corona del Mar, and recharge with a coffee in the garden's outdoor café. Most travelers prefer to avoid ticket lines by prebooking admission and take advantage of easy entry with mobile ticketing.

  • Leave enough time to explore the numerous themed gardens on-site, including the Rose Garden, Fern Grotto, and Japanese Garden.

  • Flowers abound in the Tropical Conservatory, where you’ll find colorful blooming orchids and heliconias.

  • Keep an eye out for plant labels, which include each plant's place of origin and scientific name.

  • Check the calendar for special events, including nighttime programs and garden shows.

The most convenient way to reach the Sherman Library & Gardens is to drive, since you avoid the hassle of navigating public transit, and parking is free. From Newport Beach, take California state Route 1 south for about 10 minutes, and find your destination just past Dahlia Avenue. Park in Lot A, on Dahlia Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, or Lot B, on Dahlia Avenue and Third Avenue.

The Sherman Library & Gardens are open daily, from midmorning until afternoon. The library is closed on weekends. Plan to visit when the sun is shining, since you'll want to stroll the garden's grounds. Enjoy a calmer experience during the week—the garden is most popular on weekends—and expect crowds during the Newport Beach Garden Tour in May, since special events are often held on-site.

If you're inspired by your visit to the Sherman Library & Gardens, don't miss a stop at the Garden Shop. Located in an adobe building near the sight's entrance, gardeners find a treasure trove of horticulture-themed items, as well as kitchenware, papercraft, and garden books. Find great gift ideas for the gardener in your life and kid-friendly items in the children's corner.
