Rodin Museum

2151 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy., Philadelphia, PA, 19101

Rodin Museum, 2151 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy. at jct. 22nd St. in Fairmount Park, is a Beaux Arts-style building displaying a priceless collection of Auguste Rodin originals and casts, one of the largest collections outside Paris. Many sculptures are housed in the garden, including casts of “The Burghers of Calais” and “The Thinker.” Rodin worked on “The Gates of Hell,” a pair of doors intended for a Paris museum, for 37 years, but it was only cast in bronze after his death. The piece measures nearly 21 feet tall and 13 feet wide and contains more than 200 sculptures of human figures. A tour introduces visitors to the history of the work that consumed so much of Rodin's career. The Rodin Garden, a combination of French formal meets cottage garden, is home to colorful perennials and annuals. An audio tour by cellphone is available. Photography is permitted. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
