Rim Trail
Address not available, Grand Canyon, AZ, 86023
Rim Trail extends 13 mi. along the rim of the canyon from Hermits Rest to South Kaibab Trailhead (near Yaki Point). A paved section starting at Pima Point and extending east for about 1.7 miles accommodates wheelchairs and is suitable for walking and biking. The trail is steeply downhill from Maricopa Point to Grand Canyon Village, then relatively flat. The paved 5.4-mile section from Maricopa Point to Pipe Creek Vista is better for children and casual hikers than the park's other more strenuous canyon trails. Pamphlets about the biology and geology of the canyon can be obtained from boxes along the trail. The Trail of Time is a 2.83-mile interpretive geologic walking timeline. Bronze markers indicate your location in time; every tenth marker is labeled in millions of years. Along the timeline trail are a series of rocks and exhibits that explain how the Grand Canyon and its rocks were formed.
