Qianling Mountain Park

The basics

You can buy your park admission ticket at the booth outside, where you can also pick up some snacks from vendors lining the street. Qianling Mountain Park is usually packed with visitors, especially at the entrance, so prepare for large crowds. Inside, you can hike or take the cable car up the mountain. Most visitors like to stop at Hongfu Temple and Xiangwangling Pavilion for some panoramic photos.

Things to know before you go

• There’s a small entrance fee, so have some cash on hand.
• Service animals are allowed in the park if needed.
• Unfortunately, the park is not wheelchair-accessible.
• Be prepared for some potentially aggressive monkey behavior; don’t feed them.

How to get there

The 117 bus can take you from Guiyang City to Qianling Mountain Park. It’s a popular attraction, so you shouldn’t have trouble getting there. Alternatively, you can take a taxi. Make sure you have the park’s name and your hotel’s name written in Chinese. The easiest way to get to the park is on a private or small-group tour that includes transport.

When to get there

Qianling Mountain Park is open every day from early morning to late at night. Head there early in the morning to see people practicing tai chi and ballroom dancing, two popular morning activities. Spring and fall are the most temperate seasons since summer can get quite warm and winter is chilly. The park is lovely year-round, just wear appropriate clothing.

What to see in Qingyan Ancient Town

When in Guiyang, be sure to visit Qingyan Ancient Town, which is more than 600 years old. The well-preserved stone buildings are fabulous sights, along with traditional gates, stone tablets, temples, and more. Factor in some time for shopping, buying souvenirs, and stopping for a hot and spicy local lunch.
