Punic Wall

Calle San Diego, 25, Cartagena, Murcia

Dating back to the third century BC, Cartagena’s Punic Wall offers a window into Roman history. It's the Spanish city’s oldest remains and sits beside the crypt of the Brotherhood of San José, where former members were put to rest in narrow stone niches.

Many sightseeing tours delve deeper into Cartagena’s rich Roman history, and the historically significant Punic Wall is a favorite stop. In addition to taking you down to the macabre ruins, these tours typically visit the Roman Theatre of Cartagena (Teatro Romano de Cartagena), built more than 2,000 years ago, and Casa de la Fortuna, which recreates first-century Roman life. A dedicated guided tour of the ruins takes place three or four times a day, depending on the season.

  • There’s an admission fee of €3.50 to visit the Punic Wall, with discounts for students, children, and seniors.

  • Budget around 30 minutes at this small attraction.

  • You can rent an audio guide to explore independently or download a free historical brochure on the Puerto de Culturas website.

Punic Wall is conveniently located in the center of Cartagena. The nearest bus stop (Plaza Bastarreche -Cart) is a few minutes away and serviced by buses L7, L8, L10i, and L10v.
