Penn Center Historic District is at 16 Penn Center Cir. W. The campus, dedicated to preserving Sea Island history and culture, consists of historic buildings that once were part of Penn School, which was founded in 1862 to educate formerly enslaved African Americans. The site has also been used as a training and meeting facility for Civil Rights workers in the 1960s and for agricultural training for the Peace Corps in the 1970s and 1980s. The grounds include York W. Bailey Museum, nature trails and nearly two dozen buildings. Campus maps of the historic district are available at the museum.
