Nova Scotia Museum of Industry

147 N. Foord St., Stellarton, NS, B0K 1S0

Nova Scotia Museum of Industry is at 147 N. Foord St. The museum is, appropriately enough, on the site where industrialization first took place in Nova Scotia: In the 1820s the General Mining Co. began mining coal here using newly developed methods, such as steam engines, brought from Great Britain. Two of Canada's oldest steam locomotives, “Samson” and “Albion,” are among the more than 37,000 artifacts displayed at the museum. Hands-on exhibits demonstrate bottle making, loom mills and steam and water power. Early household appliances and a collection of Nova Scotia glass also are displayed. Modern industries such as forestry, hairstyling, munitions and tourism are explored and the Shaping the Future Gallery takes a look at what lies ahead.
