Museum of Oriental Ceramics

The basics

The Museum of Oriental Ceramics is divided among three floors, with the reception, gift shop, and a tea salon on the first floor; permanent and temporary exhibits on the second floor; and a collection of Korean ceramics on the third floor. The tea room overlooks the rose path within Nakanoshima Park and serves a variety of coffees and blended teas in Royal Copenhagen cups. You don’t need a museum ticket to enter the tea room.

• Most pieces in the permanent collection have descriptions in English.
• Coin-operated lockers are available on the first floor and take 100-yen coins.
• The museum is wheelchair accessible, and two wheelchairs are available for visitor use.

How to get there

To get to the museum, take the Sakai-suji subway to Kita-hama or the Mido-suji subway to Yodoya-bashi. After exiting the station, walk across the river and past the Central Public Hall.

When to get there

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays, except on national holidays. Docent-led tours of the galleries are offered on weekends and holidays.

The Nakanoshima neighborhood that houses the Museum of Oriental Ceramics is home to several other notable museums that may be worth a visit if you’re in the area. The Yuki Museum of Art, Osaka Science and Technology Center, Osaka Science Museum, National Museum of Art, Mint Museum, and Fujita Museum are all within walking distance.
