POINT OF INTEREST

Museum of Northern Arizona

3101 N. Fort Valley Road, Flagstaff, Arizona

Filled with American Indian artifacts, fine art, and natural science displays, the Museum of Northern Arizona is dedicated to preserving the heritage of the Colorado Plateau. Visit the 200-acre (80-hectare) campus to explore the vast array of exhibits as well as the museum’s majestic surroundings.

Learn about the arts, cultures, and natural history of the Colorado Plateau on your own, or join a docent-led or behind-the-scenes tour of the Museum of Northern Arizona for additional insight and background knowledge. For a deep dive on a particular subject, participate in one of the museum’s classes or workshops.

Don’t forget to wander around outside, too: check out the region’s native plants in the gardens, or take in the dramatic views of the San Francisco Peaks while walking along one of the many trails.

  • The Museum of Northern Arizona is a must for history and culture buffs.

  • The museum and much of the grounds are accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.

  • Drop-ins are welcome for the docent-led tours, but behind-the-scenes tours require reservations.

  • The museum has an on-site souvenir shop.

The Museum of Northern Arizona is about a 10-minute drive north of Flagstaff. From downtown, take Historic Route 66 to I-180 west—the museum is just off the highway on your left.

The museum is open every day: Monday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm. Docent-led tours start at 11am and 1pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. See the museum’s website for information on behind-the-scenes tours, workshops, and events such as Thirsty Thursdays.

Throughout the summer, the museum hosts festivals that highlight the cultures of the local tribes. Share in the traditions of the Zuni, Hopi, and Navajo at gatherings that include food, ceremonies, crafts, workshops, dances, and demonstrations. You can also attend lectures and purchase native arts and crafts.
