Museum of Colorado Prisons, off US 50 at 201 N. 1st St., is located in the original women’s prison built in 1935. Displays feature the noose used for the last hanging execution in Colorado, a gas chamber, confiscated inmate weapons, disciplinary paraphernalia and inmates’ original photographs and art work. Other displays feature Roy Best, one of the prison’s most famous wardens, and other inmates such as cannibal Alferd Packer and 11-year-old murderer Anton Wood. MP3 players are available for self-guiding audio tours. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
