Museo Nacional de Arte Decorativo
Av. del Libertador 1902, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Set inside the palace of an aristocratic Argentinian family, designed by French architect René Sergent, the Museo Nacional de Arte Decorativo showcases an impressive collection of tapestries, paintings, sculptures, porcelain and other art and design pieces, predominantly from Europe and Asia. Most of the collection spans the 16th to 19th centuries, and the interior is part of the draw.
The basics
Several tours head to the Museo Nacional de Arte Decorativo, including private and group walking tours, hop-on, hop-off bus tours, and specialized museum tours. Or, you can head straight to the museum yourself. It’s free, and guided tours are available several afternoons each week. Along with the permanent and rotating exhibitions, there are special events and workshops for kids, too.
Things to know before you go
Guided tours are screen-reader enabled.
There is no entrance fee, but donations are welcome.
The museum has a library on-site, open a few days a week.
How to get there
It’s easy to get to the museum, located in the ritzy Recoleta area, via public transportation. You take one of several bus routes, or hop on the subway, or supte; take Line H to Las Heras Station, and make your way over to the museum. You can always take a taxi, too.
When to get there
The museum is open Wednesday to Sunday from afternoon to evening, with guided tours on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at around 4pm. Check the website beforehand for opening hours, but you don’t need to reserve tickets. Just show up ready to see some incredible art and interior design.
All you can eat meat
When in Buenos Aires, it’s a must—for carnivores—to head to a barbecue, or asado, restaurant. Make sure to come hungry—some of these places offer a fixed price, inviting you to eat all the bread, sides, and meat that you wish, as servers come around with grilled beef, chicken, pork, and much more. Pair the meal with a glass or two of Malbec, then be ready for a nap.
