POINT OF INTEREST

Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris

5 Ave. Marceau, Paris, Île-de-France

Opened in 2017, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent is located inside the designer’s haute couture house in Paris, where he spent almost three decades working. Rotating displays and themed exhibitions showcase the fashion icon’s body of work and design process, offering a rare glimpse into his inner sanctum.

The museum is housed in the same building as the Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent, which was founded in 2002 and offered a smaller selection of displays before the museum opened. With double the exhibition space, the museum can feature more of Saint Laurent’s pieces, such as his Le Smoking tuxedo suit, Mondrian dress, and trench coat.

The museum is not typically part of standard city tours but it may be included on fashion-specific itineraries. If you plan to visit independently, book your admission online so you don’t have to wait in the ticket line. Reservations for guided tours must be made in advance.

  • Musée Yves Saint Laurent is a must-see for fashion lovers and those interested in Parisian culture.
  • The museum is wheelchair accessible; a wheelchair is available for use on site with advanced reservation.
  • Luggage and large bags may not be brought inside the museum; a security check is in place for personal bags.
  • Bring a light sweater or other layers, as the museum is kept at a cool temperature for preservation of the items on display.
  • Plan for about a 1.5-hour museum visit.

Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris is located on the eastern edge of the 16th arrondissement, a couple of blocks north of the River Seine. It can be reached on the Metro from the Alma-Marceau station and the RER from the Alma-Marceau station. It’s a 20-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower.

Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris is open Tuesday to Sunday from late morning to early evening, with extended evening hours on Fridays. Reserved group tours take place in the mornings before the museum is open to the public.

Bordered on two sides by the Seine and home to smaller museums and foreign embassies, the upscale and mostly residential 16th arrondissement is often overlooked by visitors. However, its quieter atmosphere and elegant architecture make it a wonderful place to escape from crowds. Top sites include Maison de Balzac, Palais de Tokyo, and the Bois de Boulogne, a large public park.
