Mount Olympos (Tahtali Dagi)

Beycik, Kemer, Antalya

Reaching a height of 12,500 feet (2,365 meters), Mount Olympos (Tahtali Dagi) is the highest mountain of Beydaglari Coastal National Park. Named after the ancient Lycian city of Olympos—the ruins of which lie along the coast just to the south—the mighty peak is surrounded by a dramatic panorama of mountains, forest, and ocean.

There are two ways to reach the summit of Mount Olympos. The Olympos Cable Car (Olympos Teleferik) sets out from the foot of the mountain, taking around 10 minutes to reach the top. Alternatively, it’s a steep but rewarding hike to the summit, following part of Turkey’s (officially the Republic of Türkiye) famous Lycian Way hiking trail. A popular choice is to purchase a one-way ticket for the cable car, enjoy the views from the top, then hike back down. At the top, an observation deck affords magnificent views over Beydaglari Coastal National Park, the Taurus Mountains, and along the Mediterranean coast.

  • Olympos Cable Car tours often include hotel pickup and round-trip transport from Antalya or Kemer.

  • It’s a moderate, 9.5-mile (15-kilometer) hike to the top of Mount Olympos.

  • A restaurant and souvenir shop are located on the mountaintop.

  • Free parking is available at the Olympos Teleferik substation.

  • The Olympos Cable Car is wheelchair-accessible.

The Olympos Cable Car is located about a 1-hour drive south of Antalya, just off the D400 coastal road. Regular buses run to Kemer, from which shuttle buses continue the 4.5 miles (7 kilometers) to the cable car substation.

The best time for hiking on Mount Olympos is spring (April–June) or autumn (September–November), when the weather is cooler; hiking in winter is only recommended for experienced mountaineers. The cable car runs year-round, and winter views of the snow-covered mountains can be spectacular.

Mount Olympos is part of Beydaglari Coastal National Park, which runs along the coast south of Antalya. The long-distance Lycian Way runs through the heart of the park, and a network of other trails provide plenty of options for hikers—most notably the trails linking the ruins of the ancient cities of Phaselis, Idyros, and Olympos. Other activities in the park include mountain biking, climbing, and paragliding—tandem flights take off from the top of Mount Olympos from May to November.
