Thai kickboxing—or Muay Thai—is world-famous, and the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium (also spelled Lumpini) is one of the top places in the capital to see traditional matches. Expect to see some of Thailand’s best Muay Thai boxers in matches that are held three times a week.
Established in 1956, the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium is one of two prestigious Muay Thai stadiums in Bangkok (the other is Rajadamnern Stadium). The stadium was previously at Lumpini Park and moved here in 2014. It’s one of the few places in Thailand where gambling—done with complex hand gestures—is legal. Without experience, it's difficult to join the betting. To see a match, buy tickets online or get them at the stadium.

Gambling takes place on the second level of the stadium.
The ringside seats are the most expensive, but they have the best view.
Muay Thai is a violent sport, so not everyone may be comfortable watching or bringing kids.
Security is tight at the stadium; you may see armed military police.
Lumpinee Stadium is on Ram Intra Road, north of central Bangkok, and northeast of Chatuchak. Don’t confuse it with Lumpini Park, in the center of the city. It takes about 45 to 60 minutes to get to the stadium from central Bangkok by taxi. Alternatively, take the Skytrain or MRT to Mo Chit, and take a taxi from there.
Matches are held on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at around 6pm. Afternoon matches are sometimes also held on Saturdays. The stadium is very busy at these times.
Lumpini Park in central Bangkok shares a name with the stadium, which used to be at the park. The park, a green open space in the middle of concrete Bangkok, is worth a visit. Among the sights: local residents exercising at the park before and after work and families hanging out on the weekends.
