Linnanmaki Amusement Park

Entrance to the amusement park is free, but fees apply for each ride—it’s far more cost-effective to purchase a wristband that allows unlimited rides for one day. Daily live shows, a wide range of dining options, a Cotton Candy School, and plenty of carnival games and arcades mean that you can easily spend the entire day here. Hop-on-hop-off-bus tours of Helsinki stop right outside. Don’t miss the view over Helsinki from the free Panorama Sightseeing Tower.

• Linnanmäki has free playgrounds and some free rides suitable for children under 7.

• Most of the park’s attractions are outdoors, so wear comfy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

Linnanmäki is located in the Alppiharju district, around 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) north of downtown Helsinki. The most convenient way to arrive is by public transport—the closest tram stations are Linnanmäki pohj/Borgbacken norra (line 3) and Kotkankatu (line 9).

The amusement park is open from April to October. It can get extremely crowded on weekends and during the summer holidays (July–August), when lines for the rides can be long. To maximize your time, get there at opening and head straight for the most popular rides. One of the most atmospheric times to visit is during the Light Carnival in October, when the park dazzles with spectacular illuminations.

Right next door to the amusement park is the SEA LIFE Aquarium, home to hundreds of fish, coral, and marine life species, including sharks, rays, jellyfish, octopus, and clownfish. Inside, visitors can marvel at tropical fish and marine life in the underwater ocean tunnel, learn about the aquarium’s breeding and conservation efforts, and watch the sharks, seahorses, and other creatures being fed.
