Lambi Beach

Kos, Kos

Stretching about half a mile (1 kilometer) along the northeast corner of Kos, Lambi Beach is a popular swimming and sunbathing spot near the island’s main town and port. Lined with sand and pebbles, the beach offers chairs and umbrellas for rent, water sports, restaurants and snack bars, and views facing the Turkish coastline.

Lambi Beach is one of the premier beaches on the Greek island of Kos, located within walking distance from the town of Kos and an easy day trip from Bodrum on the nearby Turkish coast. Many Dodecanese island-hopping boat tours drop anchor here for a dip, or sunseekers can join an island tour by car or 4WD that stops at this bustling beach for a swim or a cool cocktail overlooking the Aegean Sea.

  • The beach is covered with pebbles, so wear water shoes to protect your feet against the rough stones. Shops along the beachfront often sell rubber beach shoes.
  • There is almost no shade at the beach, so plan to rent a sun umbrella and chairs, or bring your own. Most beach clubs offer umbrellas and chairs for free if you order drinks or food.
  • A number of seafood restaurants and cafés are set along the beach.
  • Lambi Beach is particularly family-friendly, with clean, shallow water, a variety of water sports rentals, and restrooms available.
  • There is a paved path along the beach, perfect for strollers and wheelchairs, but there is no boardwalk or other pavement to reach the water.

Lambi Beach is about 1 mile (2 kilometers) from the town and port of Kos. Visitors can walk from town using the sidewalk along the main road in less than half an hour, or take a bus or taxi from the town center. To reach the island of Kos, book a flight from Athens or a ferry from nearby Greek islands or Bodrum, Turkey.

The midday sun can be unforgiving on this stretch of coastline, so relax on the beach in the morning or late afternoon. Take refuge during the hottest hours of the day at one of the tavernas along the beachfront with a seafood lunch. Most beach clubs shutter between November and March, so visitors may not find umbrellas, chairs, or other services available.

The island of Kos is lined by dozens of sand and pebble beaches, all with pristine turquoise waters. While Lambi Beach is one of the most accessible and family-friendly, there are plenty of other A-listers. Marmari Beach is often considered the most beautiful, backed by rolling dunes and lined with fine sand, and Mastichari Beach is conveniently located near the island’s popular Lido Waterpark, making it a top option for kids. The scenic Agios Stefanos Beach is one of the most beloved on the island for its scenic coastline, and Limnionas Beach is a snorkeling paradise.
