POINT OF INTEREST

Lake Hollywood Park

3160 Canyon Lake Dr., Los Angeles, California

Look up from this park on the north side of Hollywoodland, and you’ll see the famous Hollywood Sign at the top of its namesake hills. In addition to the prime vantage point, you’ll find what is otherwise a lovely community park, with a grassy field, dog-friendly areas, a playground, and the Innsdale Trail, which leads even closer to the sign.

Many Hollywood Sign hiking tours pass through the park or even start from the trailhead for the Innsdale Trail, which connects with other trails and roads up the hills to reach the sign. If guided tours aren’t in your plans, you can reach the park on your own (driving is recommended) and enjoy the views, picnic areas, and walking and jogging trails. The park is also popular with bird-watchers.

  • Amenities include picnic tables, water fountains, and a children’s play area; there are no restrooms.

  • Limited street parking is available near the park entrance. Consider carpooling or using rideshare services during peak hours.

  • The park is dog-friendly, with a designated off-leash area where furry friends can romp and socialize.

  • Bring your camera (or phone) to take swoon-worthy photos of the Hollywood Sign.

Lake Hollywood Park is off of Canyon Lake Drive in the Hollywood Hills. While you can reach the Beachwood Canyon neighborhood on public transit via the Beachwood Canyon bus, you’ll still have to walk about 30 minutes to the park. Driving is much easier, but keep in mind that the park has limited street parking—if you can’t find a spot near the main entrance, try the Innsdale Trailhead farther up Canyon Lake Drive.

The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset—and white there isn't really a bad time to visit Los Angeles, visitors should know that Hollywood Lake Park attracts tourists hunting for perfect shots of the Hollywood Hills. If you’d like to avoid them or are looking for an escape from the bustle of LA, visiting early in the morning or on a weekday is your best bet.

While you can reach the Hollywood Sign from Hollywood Lake Park on foot, there isn’t a direct route. From the Innsdale Trailhead, you can head west on Tahoe Drive and north on Lake Hollywood Drive to the Wonder View Trail, or head east, eventually connecting to Mt. Lee Drive. The trip takes about 90 minutes to 2 hours in either direction.
