POINT OF INTEREST

La Cité du Vin

134 Quai de Bacalan, Bordeaux, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Bordeaux has long been one of the world’s top wine destinations but when Cité du Vin opened in 2016, it finally got a museum to match its reputation. Housed in a modernist building that resembles a wine decanter, the center comprises exhibition spaces, cultural events, a Belvedere with a beautiful view of Bordeaux, an auditorium, and more.

One of the city’s newest cultural institutions, Cité du Vin hosts a permanent exhibition that tells the international story of wine across nearly 20 themed display areas. There are also cultural events, tasting workshops, guided tours and, from April to November, a Sensory Tasting Journey

To make your trip to La Cité du Vin simple, book skip-the-line tickets online in advance of your visit. The landmark can also be explored as part of a wine-themed Bordeaux itinerary, and is included in the convenient Bordeaux City Pass scheme.

  • La Cité du Vin is a major museum, a must-visit for oenophiles, and an architectural highlight of Bordeaux.

  • During your visit, don’t forget to visit La Cité du Vin’s Belvedere: located on the 8th floor, the bar area also offers 360-degree views from 115 feet (35 meters) up.

  • One complimentary glass of wine at the Belvedere is included with every ticket.

  • La Cité du Vin is accessible to visitors with auditory, mental, physical and visual disabilities.

  • The cultural center also hosts a number of dining and drinking options, including the Latitude20 Wine Cellar, Brasserie, and Coffee Stand, and Le 7 Restaurant.

  • Large bags are prohibited at the museum, and bag checks are in place at admission.

  • Audio guides, available in eight languages, are included in the admission price.

La Cité du Vin is located just north of central Bordeaux and overlooks the Garonne River. If using public transportation, take tram line B to La Cité du Vin. The landmark is also served by bus lines 7, 25, and 27. There’s paid parking on site.

La Cité du Vin is open daily from morning until early evening year-round; its hours are extended by an hour during the summer high season and select weekends; note that on-site restaurants and bars may have different opening hours. The venue is closed annually on Christmas Day.

If you consider yourself an oenophile, complement your visit to La Cité du Vin with a trip to one of Bordeaux’s other essential wine destinations: the Musée du Vin et du Négoce (Wine and Trade Museum). Located in central Bordeaux, the museums exhibits artifacts that span more than 2,000 years of winemaking, and offers tastings.
