Kenyatta International Convention Centre

The basics

The convention center's architecture combines modern and traditional elements, with a cylindrical terracotta exterior. Inside, you'll find all sorts of spaces to rent, the largest of which (Tsavo) can seat up to 4,000 visitors, theater-style. While most people only come inside if they are planning or attending an event, many tours stop by the exterior of the building so that visitors can marvel at its size and unusual facade.

Things to know before you go

• Fiber-optic internet and language interpretation equipment is available.

• The KICC is wheelchair-accessible, with ramps throughout the building along with elevators connecting each floor.

• In-house catering services can be arranged for banquets and other special events.

How to get there

The Kenyatta International Convention Centre is located just off the Nairobi expressway in the heart of the Central Business District. It's about a 5-minute drive from the Nairobi National Museum, while the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport takes around 25 minutes to reach without traffic.

When to get there

When you visit the convention center will depend on what events you’re attending. If you’re considering planning an event in Nairobi, note that the driest months are June–September and again in January and February. If you just want to see it from the outside, come on a weekend or in the middle of the day to avoid rush-hour crowds.

Nairobi National Museum

If you find yourself with a bit of time to spare between meetings, pop over to the Nairobi National Museum, a short drive away. Here you'll find a huge collection of artifacts focusing on the history and culture of Kenya. There are also multiple rooms full of taxidermy animals, including a main gallery with a giraffe, a hippo, and a warthog—to name a few—plus a massive gallery full of bird species.
