Kandawgyi Nature Park

There are many ways to enjoy Kandawgyi Nature Park, sometimes referred to as Kandawgyi Garden. It’s popular with locals, who like to jog and stroll around the park, relax and unwind, and enjoy the shade beneath the many trees or at one of the picnic areas. In addition to Kandawgyi Lake, there’s a small zoo and several playgrounds and recreation areas. There are also several restaurants, including the renowned Karaweik Palace.

• There is an entrance fee to the park, with discounted entry if you’re visiting one of the restaurants inside the park.
• You’ll need to pay an extra fee to take photos with a camera.
• Ongoing construction can close down certain walkways and bridges.

Kandawgyi Nature Park is located north of downtown Yangon, at the intersection of Natmuk Road and Kandawgyi Kanpat Road, to the east of Shwedagon Pagoda. It’s easiest to arrive on foot or by taxi. By bus, get off at the Shwedagon Pagoda East Gate stop or on 3 Street.

The park is open from before dawn to late evening, daily. Early risers exercise in the park just after dawn, which is also a popular time to visit the Kandawgyi Lake. One of the best times to visit the park and lake is at sunset, when the reflections of nearby Shwedagon Pagoda can be seen clearly in Kandawgyi Lake. In November, Kandawgyi Lake hosts an annual regatta of traditional boat races.

Located on the eastern shore of Kandawgyi Lake, Karaweik Palace is a landmark restaurant built in the shape of a royal barge. The glittering restaurant is home to the Royal Culture Show in the evenings, which feature cultural performances, traditional dances, and a buffet dinner of both traditional local and international dishes.
