Île des Deux Cocos
Ile des Deux Cocos
Experience luxury island bliss for a day on the Île des Deux Cocos, a private island in the Blue Bay marine reserve off the coast of southeast Mauritius. You can play luxury hotel guests with island day packages that offer a boat shuttle to the island and a bevy of sea and beach activities—plus a chance to visit a Moroccan-inspired villa.
The basics
Île des Deux Cocos has palm-shaded shorelines, pristine stretches of hawker-free sands, and azure lagoon waters perfect for snorkeling. To experience it all, you can book extravagant stays at the island villa or arrange a day trip from any LUX resort. These typically transport you to the island on speedboats or glass-bottomed boats for about six hours of island fun with food, drinks, and activities ranging from snorkeling to archery and beach volleyball.
Things to know before you go
You are encouraged to bring your own snorkeling gear.
The day package tends to include unlimited drinks.
You can arrange a trip to explore a shipwreck off Pointe d’Esny or the Ile au Phare and Île de la Passe islets for an additional cost.
Bring a hat, sunscreen, a bathing suit, spare clothing, and towels
How to get there
The island is a 15–minute boat ride from Blue Bay in southeast Mauritius. Once you've arranged transport through a LUX hotel, meet at the Île des Coco jetty near Blue Bay public beach next to the Blue Bay National Coast Guard station.
When to get there
Day trips are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, but trips on other days are sometimes on offer. These trips typically arrive at the island at 10am and stay until 3:30pm. Generally, the best times to visit Mauritius are April–June and September–December to avoid the peak travel seasons.
Where to find shipwrecks and islets
Once on the island, you can ride out to Pointe d’Esny and snorkel in a reef where a ship sank during a naval conflict between the French and British during the Napoleonic Wars. A different optional trip cruises to the islets of Île au Phare, Ile de la Passe, and Île de la Passe—the latter is a Mauritius Wildlife Foundation Wildlife Reserve.
